Is summer coming to an end? New travel models exist: future prospects from the Confturismo - SWG Observatory

Main Arena

If summer is 'coming to an end', it is not only a season that draws to a close: it also marks the end of the traditional idea of a long holiday, planned once a year, as a parenthesis separate from everyday life.
The Confturismo–SWG data describe precisely this transformation: shorter, more frequent holidays distributed throughout the year; 58% of Italians split their leave across multiple periods, and 69% plan one or more short stays that extend seasonality. This is not merely an economic or organisational choice: it reflects a need to adapt to a time perceived as uncertain, fragmented and difficult to manage.
In an era in which everything changes rapidly, travel no longer serves simply to 'switch off': it serves to reconnect in order to rediscover oneself… To exist. Within this framework, travel becomes the moment in which one moves from the representation of experience to experience itself. Not merely seeing a place through a screen, but inhabiting it; not merely recounting having set off, but truly feeling elsewhere.
