Stay to Exist. Long Stay, Digital Nomads and Silver Tourism: figures and policies to transform long-term tourists into short-term citizens

Italy Arena

Long Stay is changing the way destinations are experienced. No longer places to visit for a few days, but territories capable of welcoming people who choose to stay, work, live and build relationships with local communities.

Digital nomads, senior travellers and new temporary residents represent a growing demand for places capable of offering not only hospitality, but quality of life, accessible services, digital connectivity, authentic relationships and opportunities for integration with local communities.

Drawing on concrete experiences and case studies, the panel will bring together institutions, trade associations, local administrators and hospitality operators to understand how to transform the Long Stay phenomenon into a strategic lever for territorial development.

What are the figures behind this phenomenon? What policies are needed to attract and retain new temporary residents? How can villages become attractive ecosystems for remote workers and senior travellers? What role do accessibility, infrastructure and service quality play in the competitiveness of destinations? And above all: can Long Stay become a concrete tool for territorial rebalancing in Italy in the years to come?
