Tourism as a driver of peace in the Mediterranean: the role of the sector in the New Era

Italy Arena

For the fifth consecutive year, CNR-ISMed will present in preview at TTG Travel Experience the latest volume in the international series “Tourism Studies on the Mediterranean Region”, published by McGraw-Hill and edited by the Institute in collaboration with internationally renowned guest editors.

Entitled “Tourism and Peacebuilding in the Mediterranean Region: Navigating conflict, fostering reconciliation, and promoting development”, the work highlights the important role of tourism as a driver of peace and resilience in Mediterranean countries, exploring its potential as a catalyst for reconciliation and intercultural dialogue.

The volume is edited by CNR-ISMed researchers together with guest editor Danijel Pavlović, Associate Professor, Director of the Academy of Hospitality, Tourism, and Wellness in Belgrade (Serbia), and Secretary General of the Institute for Peace Through Tourism – IIPT Chapter Serbia. It gathers both theoretical and empirical contributions from academics, experts, and tourism professionals, offering a shared reflection on the need for a more conscious form of tourism—one that is not only an economic engine but also a tool for peace and sustainable development across the Mediterranean region.
