He teaches Coastal Dynamics and Protection at the University of Florence. He has coordinated numerous national and international projects and collaborated with public administrations, including foreign ones, for coastal territory management. He is the author of over 300 scientific publications on this topic and several books, including La forma delle coste (Zanichelli), Coastal erosion and protection in Europe (Routledge), Granelli di sabbia (Pacini), and La strategia di Noè (Manifestolibri).
